Meet our Franchisees

MAY 27, 2020

In late 2017, business partners and firm owners, John Hopkins and Joel Hendriks, were faced with an ever-growing dilemma: payroll clients in their accounting firm. At the time, their firm was half-in/half-out of the payroll business, which is not an ideal position, and was causing too much "pain and suffering" for them as they knew how inefficiently their payroll division was operating. Reluctantly, they concluded to move forward with offering payroll as a service because their clients were wanting it. Initially they were going to build a payroll company from scratch, but they realized that 99 times out of 100 this is a colossal waste of time, resources, and burden on their employees.

Then, brilliantly, Joel and John had a conversation about their payroll division dilemma with their software company representative at Thomson Reuters who prompted the question, “Have you guys ever heard about Payroll Vault?” This was the moment they had been hoping for and they contacted Payroll Vault immediately. Their dream of operating a successful payroll company came to reality by starting their own Payroll Vault Franchise. One of their only regrets is, “Why didn’t we do this years ago!", exclaimed John.

Needing a strong manager for the business, they invited Amy Minjares to join the team. Having known each other through the Chamber of Commerce, it was an ideal fit and timing was impeccable. Today their payroll business is thriving! The Redlands, California’s firm goal is to onboard seventy new clients in 2020 - gifting these business professionals their time and resources back to them so they can focus on their business.

As if this dynamic team wasn’t dedicated enough, they each have a devoted emphasis on their families and enjoy a wide range of activities from tennis, scuba diving, volunteering at church, coaching youth sports groups, hiking, golfing, camping, and motorcycle riding.
